Remediation Project

During my junior year introduction to the Minor in Writing class we focused on two main projects. The first, we took a paper we had done previously in college and rewrote it with a different audience and perspective. I decided to take a paper I had written a paper titled, Throwing Like a Girl for an introduction political theory class on campus. After taking numerous glasses that talked about gender on campus, I decided to take my previous paper based on theory and develop it into a research paper aimed at higher education. The new paper addressed how gender inequality is taught in college and that there is a greater focus on women opting out of work then overcoming difficulties and uses research as well as parts of my personal classroom experiences as evidence. It discusses my personal expectations as a motivation for looking into this topic and how I am not arguing that colleges ignore focusing on things like opting out, but instead fairly show all aspects of the situation so women today can make an unbiased choice. An opportunity to read both my original inspiration paper and the further developed research paper is below.

For the next part of my project, I took that research paper and recreated it using new media. I decided to turn my paper into a website so I could not only include other gender discussions that I had experienced on campus that couldn’t fit into my paper but also because it is a great topic to open for discussion that I wanted to create a platform for people to gain knowledge and share ideas. I created a website that explained the can vs can’t concept, shared the opt-out articles and had a section about girls in sports as well, since that was the original source of my main paper. The website was clean and allowed for a “speak up” section for discussion on the topic, impact, or experiences. I was excited to learn how to use Wix for the first time and how to really lay out how a website should work. This project allowed me to think outside of the box and bring my idea to life off the paper, which I was proud of accomplishing. To explore the website, please click the image below.
