Capstone Project

In the minor in writing, you take one final capstone course. The course allows you to create an evolution essay and final project. As mentioned in my evolution essay reflection, I spend a lot of time looking forward, crafting scenarios for what is next. I decided to dedicate my capstone project to just that, my next step.

As a senior, I recognized that there were so many others in the same spot as me. Feeling unsure of what jobs to pursue, frustrated with interviews and  receiving so much advice and pressure that we were ready to break down and refuse to graduate. I channeled these emotions into the creation of my final work of new media, a podcast and website about millennials entering the work force. Focusing in on four mentors that have made a big impact on me, I interviewed them about their personal journeys through the work force and finding their passion, while sharing with the audience reflections on my personal search for a job. The goal for my project was to reach others in a similar spot as me and allow them to take some time to reflect on their own career search and hear some pretty valuable advice.

This project presented a great deal of challenges for me. I had never interviewed someone so formally or created a podcast. The website I created is also the most interactive and friendly one I have yet. While challenging, the capstone project allowed me to go through the process of researching millennials viewpoint on the workforce, carefully crafting questions that would apply to a greater audience and taking a lot of time to personally reflect on everything I had collected over the past 2 months. The writing process was different than I had ever experienced with all of the different components of my project, but I was able to achieve the type of project I had hoped to create.
